Heart of Midlothian have confirmed they have sold more than 10,000 tickets for the Viaplay Cup semi-final with Rangers in just 24 hours.

Briefs for the November clash at Hampden Park went on sale on Wednesday morning and Hearts fans have been quick to snap them up.

The club have initially been allocated 18,000 tickets with the potential for an extra 2,000 after the SPFL rejected a request for a 50/50 split. The league body took into account the previous League Cup semi-final between the sides in 2019 when deciding on allocations.

Hearts urged fans to paint Hampden maroon so it will positively impact future allocations when facing the Old Firm.

"Despite our best efforts there is no 50-50 ticket split for this match," the club said. "It was intimated to us that historical ticket sales for our semi-finals was a major factor in this decision. It could well play a part in future showpiece games. This is why it is essential for everyone connected with Hearts, in the here and now and for subsequent big occasions, that Hampden becomes a sea of maroon.

"Season ticket holders, FoH pledgers, Gorgie Ultras, Junior Jambos, PHM and PHW…we need you there at Hampden. We need you to bring that Gorgie atmosphere to Glasgow, to back the team from first whistle to last, to be part of a day that could be truly special."

Meanwhile, a Hearts spokesperson told The Scotsman that the club will "continue to put our supporters first" following talks of a SPFL proposal regarding a fixed percentage for away ticket allocations.
