Thousands descended on the Haymarket War Memorial on Saturday afternoon to take part in the Maroon Mile procession along Dalry Road, onto Gorgie Road and to Tynecastle Park.

Heart of Midlothian fans were joined by supporters of Leyton Orient as part of the 150th-anniversary celebrations and the act of remembering those players from the respective clubs who fought for their country during the First World War.

Around 150 pipes and drummers led the crowd through the streets as fascinated onlookers stopped to take it all in. They were joined by the 17th Pals' Battalion Band.

Dickens on Dalry Road had hung up a banner above the pub which read: 'Dickens Loung Bar salutes the fallen from Heart of Midlothian and Leyton Orient. Lest we forget'.

All roads led to Foundation Plaza where they were joined by the Tynecastle High Pipe Band who performed a special rendition of the ‘Hearts Song’. The event can be deemed a huge success with the numbers involved.

Ahead of the friendly which Leyton Orient won 2-1, which was attended by more than 10,000 fans, a lone piper played which was followed by the Last Post and a minute's silence.

It is hoped the match can become a regular fixture in the calendar.
