On the day Hearts took up an option on his contract to extend his deal by another year, Cammy Devline sat down with the press to discuss his new deal and to look ahead to the Kilmarnock game.

Had the contract been in the pipeline for a while?

“I was aware a couple weeks ago the club was going to take up the option of another year. I obviously knew it was in my contract. It's good, everyone knows I really enjoy being here and the talks over a longer deal will start soon. To know I have that security of being here for another year is nice.

Was this something in the back of your mind, did you know the clause was there?

"When you sign the contract there’s a lot of stuff you probably don’t read in it but that was something I definitely looked at and I knew I had the three years plus one. The club have decided they value me enough to take that up. For any individual in their workplace, when the people above you appreciate you and value you, to want to keep you is a nice feeling for anyone. They've taken that decision to keep me here for a minimum of another year and it is a nice feeling."

Kye got a long-term contract...

“Kye (Rowes) signed a life-time contract! We haven’t started those negotiations but everyone that knows me knows I really enjoy being here, not only the football but the life outside of football too. I love living in Edinburgh and I’m settled here. But the reason I’m here is because I feel I’m a big part of such a special club. I feel like I am a big part of this club and have really settled in well. I’ve got a good relationship with everyone at the football club and the fans. Long may that continue."

The next step is silverware...

“Yeah and obviously tomorrow is the first step towards building that. I have said a few times how special and important it is. For me, to bring a trophy back to Tynecastle would be the highlight of my time here. Playing in Europe and being in that cup final were such good experiences but to be able to actually bring something back to our stadium and go through Edinburgh with a trophy and see the fans would top it off. This group of boys have achieved a lot of success since I’ve been here and to actually have some silverware to show for it would be the best thing ever.”

Three games away from silverware?

"We’ve only played one game and there are eight teams left. You’re still a long way away but you feel like it’s right there and within touching distance. The game against Kilmarnock is so important, it will be tough, they are a well organised team but it’s about us, taking the game plan we’re given. We’ve got so much belief in what we’re being told but it’s about us as players taking that responsibility on and making sure we get the win and move one step closer to bringing a trophy back.

What do you put the inconsistency down to?

"I feel like in games and felt at the weekend that we were in control, we were nice, then it would get to the final third and break down. The coaching staff have drilled into us the way they want us to play. I personally have so much faith and belief in what we’re being told. It has helped me a lot in my game and I know all the boys are the same. We absolutely love working under this coaching staff and Naisy - it's about us as players, we’re paid to do the job on the football pitch and we’ve got to go and replicate that. There have been moments where we’ve conceded a soft goal, the weekend is a prime example, and in the final third things are breaking down. When they click, which we know they can like against Aberdeen, then you get a result and it feels all rosy again. The opposite happens the other day but I think as players it's about keeping on going because we believe in what we’re being told and we have to go out there and do it on the pitch."

How many stitches for the head knock?

"Four stitches after the game. It’s not the first time I’ve finished a game with a bandage wrapped around my head, maybe I’m in the wrong sport. If it means I get to play on Tuesday then happy days."
