Zander Clark recorded a 10th clean sheet of the league season in Heart of Midlothian's 1-0 win over Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday evening, with the 32-year-old playing a vital role in the victory.

The former St Johnstone shot-stopper denied Martin Boyle from the penalty spot in Leit before teeing up Lawrence Shankland for a dramatic derby winner in second-half stoppage time.

Clark spoke to the media after the full-time whistle where he discussed a massive three points gained, Shankland's importance to the team, and preparing for penalty kicks.

Here's everything the goalkeeper had to say:

Is that the perfect way to win a derby?

Probably. I would have probably liked to have been a bit more comfortable. But as a keeper I always say if you make important saves at key times and keep clean sheets that contribute to a win, it’s always pleasing.

Does it feel like a big win?

Yeah. Listen, it wasn’t a classic but we knew we would need a bit of magic to turn the game. And when you have got Shanks up there, he is more than capable of producing – and what a finish it was. It was more that sense of relief that we got three points when it looked like it was only going to be one.

It must give the team a lot of confidence that if you do your job and then Lawrence is up the other end and is capable of something like that?

Yeah. We’ve got players in that attacking area that have got that wee bit of magic. We saw it the other day with Alan Forrest and then we have got Baz [McKay] coming back from injury, so we have got players that can produce that bit of magic. When Shanks took it on to the left juker under pressure and swung it into the top corner, it was a great feeling.

You did your homework for Boyle’s penalty?

I’m sick and tired of doing homework on penalties! They can go anywhere really but we always do look over them. You can’t really say they will go this way or another, it’s how you feel in the moment. I was probably due one.

Do you feel that it gave the team the momentum back after Shankland’s penalty miss?

Yeah. It got our fans going again and gave everyone a lift. We had the chance to go one up and missed the penalty. It’s a horrible feeling and we then conceded a penalty. If we lost a goal it would have been flatter but it’s those sort of moments you know you can go and give the team a lift if you save it. It was brilliant.

Shankland said he would buy you a beer but he’ll never need to buy a beer in Gorgie again, will he?

No – and I’ll hold him to that! He’s a top quality striker. He’s proven it so much us already the season. It was a great bit of skill to get in and he knows where the goal is. That’s two on the bounce with his left juker, so he might be kidding us on that he’s right footed.

Are you ready for the possibility of him leaving?

Listen, I think Shanks is fully focussed on us at the minute. He’s under contract here and he is putting on performances like that and scoring goals. Whatever happens we’ll enjoy him. He’s comfortable here in the changing room. All we can do is focus on the next game and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.

Will you be claiming an assist bonus as well?

Aye, I’ll take that. It might be a few fantasy football points for some people. It was late in the game and wanted to launch it as far as I could. Shanks got into a fight with the defender and stuck it in the top corner.
