Barry Robson admitted it will be a "really difficult task" for his Aberdeen side to catch Heart of Midlothian.

Last season the Dons came from 10 points behind in the second half of the season to finish above Hearts in third but with their 2-0 win at Tynecastle Park, Steven Naismith's men are now a mammoth 19 points ahead of the Dons.

“It is a really difficult task when you look at the points difference," Robson said. “But the one thing is I’m a fighter and we are Aberdeen. My players are fighters and we will keep working and making sure we win the next game and keep going.”

He added: “That performance today for the first 65 minutes you need to give that for the whole 90 minutes. I said that to the players. There are no excuses. I am not going to sit here and use excuses like the Bojan one, the penalty and it falls to Lawrence Shankland.

“We wanted to come down here and win the game and we never. So we need to find a  way to win the game against a very good Dundee team."

Hearts benefited from two VAR decisions with Kevin Clancy ruling out Bojan Miovski's first-half strike and then awarding the home side a second-half penalty, both came after consulting the monitor.

Robson questioned the first decision when Beni Baningime was tripped by Miovski.

"When you come down to Tynecastle you need to play really well and everybody needs to be at it," he said. "We never got the luck today. I've watched it back and it doesn't look it's clear and obvious.

"I thought we were very good first half, I really did, we performed really well. I thought we could score another goal after the Bojan one.  The one thing I was really angry about is when we gave the penalty away we never performed well after that."
