Lawrence Shankland continues to hit goal-scoring milestones for Heart of Midlothian.

His second-half strike in the 2-0 win over Celtic was his 27th of the season (28 if you include his goal for Scotland), his 16th in his last 15 outings and 19th in his previous 19 appearances.

An incredible record.

The goal against Celtic also took him to 20 goals in the Scottish Premiership. With 24 in the league last campaign, he became the first Hearts player to hit at least 20 goals in the top flight in back-to-back seasons since Willie Wallace 1963/64 and 1964/65. The SPFL also noted that he is the first player to achieve it in the Scottish top-flight since Gary Hooper did it with Celtic in 2010/11 and 2011/12.

Shankland also became the highest Hearts goalscorer this century moving ahead of Jamie Walker with his 55 goals, as per Hearts Stats. They have been scored in just 84 games.

No Hearts fan needs to be reminded of Shankland's importance to the team. His goals have been worth 18 points. He has opened the scoring in nine Premiership games, four more than anyone else. He has scored what has proved to be the winning goal on seven occasions. No one else in the Premiership has done it more than twice.

And there are still, at least, 10 games for him to play. Nine in the league, plus the Scottish Cup quarter-final clash with Greenock Morton. He could have as many as 12 games to add to his tally.

The next milestone in his sight is the 30-goal mark. John Robertson was the last Hearts player to do that, scoring 31 in 1987/88.

If Shankland was to score five more goals, taking him to 32, it would be the highest return for a Hearts player since Jimmy Wardhaugh scored 37 in the famous 1957/58 season when the team won the league, scoring 132 goals in their 34 league games.

Only two players have ever scored 40 goals in one season for the club. Barney Battles Jr and Willie Bauld. It is likely a feat that is out of reach but with the form Shankland has been in you certainly wouldn't rule it out if Hearts were able to reach the Scottish Cup final.

In terms of the league, Shankland is currently leading the top scorer standings by six goals. James Tavernier is on 14 with Bojan Miovski one behind. No Hearts player has finished as the league's top scorer since John Robertson in the 1989/90 campaign.

In terms of personal accolades, he could become the first ever Hearts player to win the PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year.
