Heart of Midlothian will spend a week in Tenerife as part of their preparations for the new season.

Steven Naismith will take his squad to the Canary Islands in July for a behind-closed-doors training camp.

Hearts return for pre-season in the middle of June after nearly five weeks off and will spend time building toward the new campaign at the Oriam. The team will then fly out to Tenerife for the training camp, allowing Naismith and his coaching staff to increase the intensity in warm conditions with double sessions planned each day.

“Warm weather training has become an essential part of pre-season as we prepare for the season ahead," he told the club's official website. “The players will be working every day – double sessions and gym – so the camp gives them the best chance of building up a base level of fitness, which will be required as we participate on both domestic and European fronts.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the boys to spend time with each other and further develop the team spirit that played a huge role in our success last season.”

Hearts have two friendlies confirmed for when they return from Tenerife. They will play Leyton Orient at Tynecastle Park on July 13 as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations in a fixture presented by LNER. Naismith will take the squad south to play Charlie Adam's Fleetwood Town on July 27, a week before the new Premiership season gets underway on the weekend of August 3/4.
