Heart of Midlothian duo Cammy Devlin and Kye Rowles have been called up to the Australia squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Socceroos, who top their qualifying section with four wins from four, face a trip to Bangladesh on Thursday 6 June before hosting Palestine in their final group fixture on Tuesday 11 June.

Rowles, who has 20 caps for his country, has been a mainstay in the squad since the Qatar World Cup and scored his first Australia goal in a 2-1 win over Lebanon during the last international break.

Devlin last represented his country in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Ecuador in March last year, and missed the Asian Cup (held in January and February) as he recovered from an injury. Speaking after the 3-3 draw at home to Rangers on the final day of the season, the 25-year-old expressed his hopes of a recall to the international set-up.

He said: “Got everything crossed now! I’ve been out of it for a while now, missed four camps, the Asian Cup through injury.

“I’ve always said whether I was injured or not playing as much as I’d like, I’ll always be the one to work as hard as I possibly can and put myself in a position to get picked.

“I feel recently since I’ve been back starting more or less every game I’ve done quite well so fingers crossed.”

As is often the case, the Australia squad is littered with SPFL players past and present. Former Dundee United left-back Aziz Behich, St Mirren right-back Ryan Strain, former Ross County and Hibernian midfielder Jackson Irvine, former St Mirren midfielder Keanu Baccus, Hibs winger Martin Boyle and former Celtic attacker Daniel Arzani have all been included.
