Heart of Midlothian have confirmed the appointment of Angus Beith as the B team's assistant coach.

The 28-year-old was once a promising midfielder in the club's academy, making three appearances for the first-team until injury forced him to retire early.

During his time at Hearts he had loan spells at Stirling Albion and Stenhousemuir. After he departed from Tynecastle Park he joined Inverness CT but he retired at the age of 23 due to a recurring hip issue that three operations couldn't fix.

Beith took to coaching following retirement and has worked with at Hearts in different roles, including as an analyst and at the club's performance school in Balerno. He now steps up to assist B team after as spell with the under-18s.

B team manager Liam Fox spoke of the range of positives he brings to the role with Beith having walked in the shoes of the younger players and worked closely with many during his time at the Oriam and Balerno.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have Angus working with us," he told the club's website. "We’re trying to create a positive culture and environment that allows the players to feel comfortable and that is something Angus will definitely add to.

“First of all, he knows the football club, but he’s also experienced that journey first-hand, of being a young academy player, progressing into that first-team environment and making his debut for the club. His experiences will be brilliant for the kids to learn from.

“He also has those relationships already in place with the majority of the kids from his time working in the academy and leading the school performance programme at Balerno.

“We are constantly looking at ways to keep improving the youngsters and with a different voice coming on board in Angus, that will help the players, in terms of maximising their output in training every day.

“I have already seen the huge drive that Angus has to not only be the best coach he can be, but also to improve the players and help them during their careers.”
