Nathaniel Atkinson has backed his former Heart of Midlothian team mates to turn their season around after completing his move back to Australia.

The right-back's departure was confirmed by the club on Monday morning with the player re-joining Melbourne City.

Atkinson signed a three-year deal with the A-League side, the team he won the title with back in 2021 prior to his move to Tynecastle Park.

At the end of last season, the 25-year-old was told by Steven Naismith he would not feature in his plans for this upcoming campaign. With the transfer window still open in Australia he was able to return home.

He posted a message on his Instagram following his transfer.

"Thank you Hearts," Atkinson said. "Memories to last a life time. Friends for life. What a club, god bless and all the best. They'll turn this around without a doubt."

During his time in Gorgie, Atkinson featured 72 times and won all 13 of his Australia caps while at the club.
