Heart of Midlothian striker Lawrence Shankland has been replaced in the Scotland squad by Aberdeen's Kevin Nisbet.

The Hearts captain had been part of Steve Clarke's original squad for the Nations League double header with Croatia and Portugal.

Shankland, however, has been pulled out due to a slight hamstring issue.

The 28-year-old played three 90 minutes in the space of a week providing two assists and scoring his first goal of the season. The run of games culminated in the defeat at Aberdeen on Sunday.

The hamstring issue is not thought to be serious with the decision a precaution.

Scotland play Croatia in Zagreb on Saturday before hosting Portugal at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening. The national team lost their first two games of Group 1 of League A, putting them in a difficult position heading into the World Cup qualifiers.

Shankland, who would have been looking to add to his 14 caps for his country, will now recover ahead of Hearts' home clash with St Mirren after the international break.
