Norwegian Per-Mathias Hogmo will not be the next manager of Heart of Midlothian after reportedly failing to agree terms.

Hogmo emerged as the preferred candidate to fill the managerial vacancy at Tynecastle Park on Friday.

However, according to STV, after holding talks with the Hearts hierarchy, no deal has been agreed and the club will turn their attentions elsewhere.

The 64-year-old is without a club having most recently managed Urawa Red Diamonds in the J-League.

Before that he was manager of Hacken in Sweden where he led the club to its first Allsvenskan title.

Hogmo has had a long and varied coaching career, from managing Norwegian giants Rosenborg and the women’s national team to technical director and director of football roles at club and national level and across various age groups.

In 2013, Hogmo was appointed manager of the Norway men’s national team, succeeding the legendary Egil Olsen. He spent three years in the role.

Hogmo would have brought experience of coaching on the European stage. Last season, he guided Hacken to a 5-3 aggregate success over Aberdeen in the Europa League play-off, securing group-stage football.

Hearts are looking for a permanent replacement for Steven Naismith who was sacked last month. Since then Liam Fox has been in charge on an interim basis guiding the club to its first win of the season versus Dinamo Minsk.

Last month, Hearts chief executive Andrew McKinlay said the club had received more than 100 notes of interest for the position of manager.

They are looking for a more experienced head to succeed Naismith after a disastrous start to the season saw the former Scotland international relieved of his duties.
