Heart of Midlothian booked their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup thanks to Alex Lowry's dramatic winner at Rugby Park.

Steven Naismith's team took a well-earned lead in the first half through Jorge Grant's composed finish in Ayrshire before Kilmarnock came roaring back after the break, levelling the scores through Brad Lyons' 68th-minute header.

The tie seemed destined for extra-time before Lowry made his presence felt with a remarkable cameo off the bench. The Rangers loanee had been on the park for less than a minute when Liam Boyce cut the ball back to him in the Killie area in second-half stoppage time, with the playmaker showing great composure to drag the ball back to create an angle and rifle the ball home to seal a morale-boosting win.

Our writers gave their thoughts at the full-time whistle, discussing the improvements made on the weekend's defeat to St Mirren and pinpointing where the match was won and lost.
